Hyderabad, Apr 28 (KNN) Bhaskar Jyoti Sonowal has been elected President of the BRICS Entrepreneurs Alliance Global Forum (BEA) for the 2026–27 term, signalling a stronger push to promote MSMEs and entrepreneurship across the BRICS+ ecosystem.
Dr. Sonowal, who currently serves as CEO and Executive Director of BEA India, will steer the alliance’s global strategy at a time when India is preparing to host the BEA Global Summit in November 2026.
Boost for MSMEs and global partnerships
His appointment is expected to strengthen cross-border trade within BRICS+ nations, enhance global partnerships for Indian businesses and expand market access for MSMEs and startups.
Dr. Sonowal said his focus would be on creating meaningful opportunities and deepening collaboration across member countries.
India’s growing leadership role
The development underscores India’s rising prominence as a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation within the BRICS+ framework.
Boris Tarasov, Secretary General, BEA Global, noted that India is playing a key role in shaping a more inclusive global trade architecture, adding that Dr. Sonowal’s leadership will be instrumental in advancing this vision.
The announcement follows the India BRICS Business Summit held in Hyderabad on April 18-19, 2026, which culminated in the adoption of the ‘Hyderabad Declaration’ outlining a roadmap for MSME growth and deeper global collaboration.
Government support for MSME push
Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi highlighted that BEA India plays a key role in promoting entrepreneurship and urged MSMEs to leverage government schemes for growth.
Meanwhile, Minister of State Raj Bhushan Choudhary pointed to emerging opportunities in sectors such as agro-processing, education, healthcare and tourism, particularly in regions like Bihar.
Expanding engagement
BEA India plans to expand its footprint through national and international summits aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, facilitating global market access and strengthening trade partnerships.
With India taking a leadership role, the BEA Global Forum is expected to deepen collaboration across BRICS+ nations and build a more resilient and inclusive global entrepreneurial ecosystem.
